Woodblock printing class in tortoise
I went to this woodblock printing class today. Shodo Iwagaki is a monk from Japan and he taught us how to carve and print.

The invitation he made for the show and the class.

We were asked to create some graphic with square, circle and triangle since it's a short class.

This is what I did! I'm afraid that I'm not "zen" enough. It's kind of fun that shodo pointed out the imperfect parts of the print and he said he likes the way it is." It's part of character of wood block printing......"

I like his free form bag. Things are just simple held together by a big sheet of fabric.

The fabric he designed.

His "Zen talk" postcard. I learned some of the Zen poetry before. It's really inspiring to see some of them being interpreted into graphic forms.

The lovely birds in tortoise. Tortoise is a dangerous place! I want everything there.

Today is a busy Sunday! Tired but happy!!

Hi Ah-yi,
I was just doing a little search on Shodo Iwagaki and I came across your blog. Funny : ) I was in the workshop with you but we didn't really meet!
I've also put something up on my blog about it: www.space-to-think.com
By the way, your prints and photos are really lovely. I've noticed your prints before in Reform School actually. Anyway, nice to find you online ... we have similar interests I think.
Hope to see you again some day ...

Your print of the bird with the hat is so cute.

And I have been to Tortoise. Those driftwood birds are wonderful. I am not too much of a collector but I think a nice skinny wood bird would be perfect in my apartment.
