come darkness, part one

I want to show you some of the working process of the pieces I did for the group show called "come darkness".

I tried to print some wood blocks with sumi ink on different kind of papers. ( print making paper, lettra, water color paper, etc.)

(This is the one I mixed sumi ink with oil ink on Lettra cotton paper.)

I had special relationship with sumi
ink.I grew up using sumi ink and brush to write the chinese characters in the writing class.
One of the summer in my high school I begged my mom to let me study chinese painting. It was only one summer but I enjoyed a lot. I like to see the ink smearing on the paper. It's like brush is dancing on the paper and marking a beautiful landscape. After high school, I never touch them again. Till this summer I had a wood block print work shop at tortoise. The sumi ink was introduced to me again.

I was taught to use oil based ink or rubber based ink for printing blocks in my letterpress class. I never thought of using other different of medium. When I saw the sumi ink at the workshop. I almost screamed. It is so familiar but I almost forgot.
.....

When Mav contacted me and told me the theme for the show I thought of sumi ink again!!
