good mail day!



Last Saturday I got a nice package from goodness!! I want to say thank you to Leslie! she helped me to find some good Japanese books which I have been dying for .

First book to share is the 2008 s/s catalog from mina perhonen











I also got this book which I am really glad that I bought it. It comes with one to one scale pattern which you can trace and very detailed illustrations.

a sad thing






this is one of my favorite scarves! i just found that CL washed it yesterday! (dumped it in the wash machine and dryer,.......).
so this is lovely scarves is totally destroyed,........
i felt so so so sad yesterday! (it was a gift from my best friend.....she is living in London now,. i always feel that she is around because of this vintage scarf.) I felt that a part of me or memory has been chopped out....

Have been thinking to bring this to my weaving teacher and see if he would know how to make the same pattern. I guess I will him the picture instead next time...........

Somthing I really miss !!

My grandpa used to bring us before dinner snack. Steam rice with stew pork, fish flakes and pickles which wrapped nicely with bamboo leaf.
I don't see people do this anymore in Taiwan. Have you ever thought about what did we use before the invention of plastic bags, PET bottles, etc..........?


(I didn't mean the bamboo rice dumpling. It was like a very normal street food but they wrap it with bamboo leaves.)

making & making








We went to a hardware store in little Tokyo! Yah!! we found the Japanese carving knife. I recycled some scraps of cedar which we used for our deck. I wonder where I can buy and find the scraps of teak, bamboo or walnut.....

I didn't apply any oil or bee wax. I like the natural look of it although apply the wax will enhance the grain a little bit.

It was a wonderful Sunday afternoon! Making things always makes me happy!

Before & After









This the first project I worked with CL after I quited my day job. I used to work on bigger scale projects in my old office. Sometimes I felt a bit lost because it's more like working with computer and paper everyday! My old boss talked to the client and he did the design. I was so not satisfied!! I didn't feel good when I see things I drew been built.

It's still a bit scary that I quited my day job but I am really happy that I did it!!

This house is coming along well! We are really happy how it turn out! I definitely will share more pictures after it's completely done.

so I've made several of them. I made it into a lamp. I'm still trying to figure out which paper works best for this. Will keep making and share more later.

The book I got is published in 1967 and there is no ISBN NO.

But I found this book in the japanese yahoo and this one is published in 1989. I think this is the newer version.
ISBN 978-4-7630-8903-8 （4-7630-8903-X）

*( I just found that most of big universities libraries own this book in Taiwan and it's already translated into Chinese!! You are lucky if you are living in Taiwan. I think I'm going to look for this book and some other Taniwaka books when I go back to Taiwan next time.)
